North Warren Cemetery

The North Warren Cemetery project is now complete. To celebrate we held a successful exhibition about the cemetery and launched the Cemetery books and CD.

We have photographed and recorded all the gravestones in the North Warren Cemetery down Ropery Road. You can read the story of one of the cemetery’s residents here.

And we also have a few mysteries in the cemetery to solve. You can find out about those here.

Opened in 1846, the cemetery was the property of a company of shareholders mostly Wesleyan Methodists and Unitarians.

In 1856, the cemetery had not been consecrated and only dissenting ministers officated there.

It was transferred to the Urban District Council in 1899.

In the centre of the cemetery there was an octagonal Chapel (we would like to hear from anyone who has a photograph of this) built of grey bricks bearing the name - Tomlinson - whose brickyard was at Walkeringham.

Susan Edlington would like to thank Jim Radley of West Lindsey District Council and Paul Howitt-Cowan for getting this project ‘off the ground’.

If you can provide photographs of gravestones no longer standing - please contact us!
